Colin Chalton
Scottish Landscape Painter

Welcome to my on-line Gallery

Enjoy the many landscapes, sea and sky scapes I have recorded in paint around the Scottish Highlands, especially the scenes of Loch Ness, the Moray Firth, Beauly Firth and the Black Isle.

The initial watercolours are painted in my sketchbooks ‘en plain air,’ working rigorously and gesturally, absorbing the sights and sounds of the landscape. Including the rain showers and breezes, all adding to the painting experience.

The painting process

Returning to my wee studio in Inverness, using the initial watercolour sketches as templates I reinterpret the sketches. Refining and controlling the paint onto high quality canvases, applying acrylic paint, acrylic inks and pastels.

My palette’s colour range is selected from the primary colours, mixed to achieve the strongest colour values and intensity, finished with a varnish which enhances the depth of the colours.

Using a local craftsman, the paintings and prints are professionally framed with hanging cords.
